Tie Dye Headware - dye kit for a hat and a scarf

Description

A craft kit for dyeing two items of clothing yourself in the cloudy pattern known as tie-dye. Everything is in the box: three 120 ml squeeze bottles with dye, two pairs of gloves, twenty rubber bands, a hat, a 30 x 30 cm scarf and an instruction sheet.

The method is set out in three steps on the box. Add water to the dye in the bottle, bind the fabric into a bundle with the rubber bands and squeeze the dye onto it, then leave the whole thing wrapped up. After six to eight hours you rinse it out, and only at that moment do you see what has come out of the knots.

The waiting is part of it, as is the fact that no two results are the same. Where the rubber bands sat the fabric stays light and the colour runs on in between; the tighter you bind, the sharper the pattern.

Cover the table and put on something that is allowed to get stained, because this is craft work with colour flying about. An activity for a rainy Wednesday afternoon, with a result that actually gets worn afterwards.
