Hinkler Mindbogglers Dutch windmills puzzle - 1000 pieces

Windmills, tulips and a cloudy sky: the Dutch image par excellence, and in this photograph all three at once. The rows of tulips run in coloured bands away from the foreground towards a line of mills on the horizon. Hinkler released it as a jigsaw puzzle of 1000 pieces in the Mindbogglers range.

The bands of tulips make the puzzling surprisingly systematic: you work backwards one colour strip at a time and watch the field appear literally row by row. The mills with their sails and the roofs beneath them ask for more precision, and the cloudy sky is best saved for last.

The box measures 35 x 22.5 x 4.5 cm and contains 1000 pieces. Enough work for a few quiet evenings, and with two of you at the table it moves along nicely.

A present anyone in the Low Countries will recognise, for someone who loves flowers, or for someone just back from a spring day across the border.
