Wooden fishing rod for duck fishing - with cord and hook

This wooden rod is the tool for the oldest fairground game there is: duck fishing. A white cord hangs from the stick with a green bead and a bent metal hook on the end - exactly the kind of hook that fits the ring of a plastic fairground duck.

Fill a tub, a bucket or an inflatable paddling pool with water, float a handful of ducks in it and let the children race each other. Whoever holds the hook steady fishes fastest; that is the whole trick, and it is precisely why small children stay with it so long.

The stick is light, untreated wood and weighs next to nothing, so a small hand holds it straight without effort. The cord is fixed at the tip and the bead keeps the hook in place. Ducks are not included: buy those separately, or use the ones that are already in the bathroom.
